PDF to link: turn a PDF into a shareable link
Drop a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file. After a free sign-up you get a link that opens in any browser. Readers need no app and no account.
Next, create a free account so your link keeps working. No credit card.
How to convert a PDF to a link
Three steps, and the second one only happens once.
- 1
Drop your file
Choose a PDF, a Word file (.docx) or a PowerPoint file (.pptx). Word and PowerPoint files are converted to PDF for you.
- 2
Create a free account
The link needs an owner so you can replace the file, turn downloads on or off, or delete it later. No credit card.
- 3
Copy your link
Your file uploads as soon as you land on the dashboard. Copy the link, or grab a QR code or embed code for the same PDF.
What your PDF link does
A plain link to a file is easy to make. These are the parts that matter once people start opening it.
Opens in any browser
Readers tap the link and the PDF opens on a phone or computer. They do not need an account or an app.
Unlisted by default
Only people who have the link can open it. The viewer page asks search engines not to index it.
Same link, new file
Fixed a typo? Replace the PDF and the link keeps working. The old file is deleted, so there is no version history.
Downloads off by default
Unlisted PDFs start view-only unless you change your defaults. This reduces casual downloads. It is not DRM.
Know when it is opened
Every plan shows total views and emails you the first time someone else opens an unlisted PDF.
Word and PowerPoint too
DOCX and PPTX files convert to PDF. Fonts can be swapped, and animations, video and speaker notes are left out.
Public, unlisted or private
Every PDF has one of three settings. You can change it at any time from the dashboard.
Swipe sideways to compare
New PDFs are unlisted. For printed QR codes, keep them unlisted: a public PDF’s direct file link stops working if you later switch it to unlisted.
PDF to link questions
Short answers about turning a PDF into a link with SharePDF.
Is this PDF to link converter free?
Yes. The free plan keeps 2 PDFs live at a time, with files up to 5 MB, and includes the link, a QR code, an embed code and total views. Paid plans start at $5 a month for 25 PDFs and 25 MB files.
Why do I need an account?
A link without an owner could never be changed or taken down. With an account you can replace the file behind the link, switch downloads on or off, and delete the PDF when you are done.
Does the link expire?
No. The link works for as long as the PDF stays in your account. Paid plans can set an expiry date and time on unlisted and private PDFs if you want it to stop working.
Can people download my PDF?
Unlisted PDFs start with downloads off unless you change your defaults, so the viewer hides the download button and printing shows a blank page. Readers can still take screenshots or copy text, so it is not DRM.
Can I change the PDF after I share the link?
Yes. Upload a new PDF in its place and everyone with the link sees the new version. The replacement must be a PDF, and the old file is deleted.
Can I make the link private or password protected?
Private PDFs open only for you. Password protection, link expiry and an email form before the PDF opens are on paid plans.
I want to turn a web page into a PDF. Is this the right tool?
No, that is the opposite job. To save a web page as a PDF, use your browser: choose Print, then pick Save as PDF as the printer. You can then upload that PDF here to share it as a link.
